A fight between Manny Pacquiao and Conor McGregor may never happen, contrary to what was previously reported that the two are scheduled to fight in Saudi Arabia next year. In an interview, UFC president Dana White told Spinnin Backfist that “I don’t know if you just saw, but the Saudis went after Conor, basically said you better take that [out], that’s a lie that fight [with Manny Pacquiao] is happening and you better take that down in the next 15 minutes or we’re going to sue you.”
This past weekend, news about Pacquaio facing McGregor went viral on the internet, drawing mixed reactions from boxing fans around the world. Many boxing fans have expressed their disappointments, saying the fight with McGregor is not a good one for the sport of boxing. But with this latest development hinting that the fight is far from happening, it may be welcomed as good news for boxing.
On his twitter, former UFC lightweight and welterweight world champion McGregor even scoffed at posting a poster between himself and Pacquiao stating that the fight would take place in Saudi Arabia. But that particular tweet of him has been deleted. Such a claim, according to UFC president White, is a lie. The Irishman has reportedly had an exclusive contract with the UFC and has yet to ask for clearance from his promotion if he wishes to fight Pacquiao as he did when he fought Mayweather.
And with the latest development, as we can read on the news that White is now offering McGregor an opponent inside the Octagon, the Pacquiao-McGregor showdown will have to die naturally. “He called out (Dustin) Poirier for a fight with Conor in Dublin for charity. So we offered them both a fight. We offered Dustin and Conor a fight so we’re waiting to hear back from both of them.”
In an exclusive interview with SecondsOut, Manny Pacquiao’s advisor and president of MP Promotions, Sean Gibbons, shared his views on the Pacquiao-McGregor showdown saying that even if the fight is far from happening, it can be fun. He also believed that Pacquiao can destroy McGregor very early in the fight and can do so without much difficulty.
